So what exactly is Foot Mobilisation Therapy (FMT)? In this short video, I explain what FMT is and how it can help your foot and leg pain.
FMT is a very effective form of joint mobilisation. It uses gentle, hands-on techniques to treat foot alignment and biomechanical problems. Health professionals around the world use it to restore normal joint function and range of motion, without orthotics, surgery or drugs.
When the joints in your feet are out of alignment, your soft tissues come under extra pressure and strain, and your body is forced to compensate. Over time, that leads to pain, stiffness and poor foot function, and it can travel up into your knees, hips and lower back.
FMT gently guides the joints back into position and releases restrictions in the feet and lower limbs, so the tissues can heal and repair. We combine it with specific exercises to strengthen the muscles and support the changes.
The treatment itself is gentle, targeted and painless. In many cases, FMT provides a permanent solution to foot and leg pain without orthotics or surgery.
Shaun McCann, the founder of Corrective Foot Solutions, did postgraduate training in FMT in Sydney, where he was mentored by some of the world's leading Foot Mobilisation podiatrists. Having had foot problems himself, Shaun also went through a course of FMT, and he no longer relies on orthotics.
