Foot Mobilisation and Manipulation Therapy is a very effective form of joint mobilisation, using manipulation techniques, to treat many foot alignment and biomechanical issues. Foot Mobilisation and Manipulation Therapy is widely used by health professionals around the world to restore normal joint function and range of motion.Joint restrictions in the feet can lead to joint displacement and shifting. These misalignments can cause increased pressure and strain on the soft tissues. The body is forced to compensate for this displacement, leading to pain and symptoms, stiffness, arthritis and poor foot function. This can result in adaptations to walking style, which can lead to further complications such as, knee, hip and lower back strain.Foot Mobilisation and Manipulation therapy is used to release restrictions in the feet and lower limbs and allows the connective tissue to heal and repair to a more healthy functioning state, increasing mobility. The ultimate goal at Corrective Foot Solutions is to correct these underlying joint and structural alignments, maintain mobility and improve strength, balance and foot posture so you can live active and healthy lifestyles.
Used extensively in the areas of physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathy, FMT originated from a type of treatment called manipulative therapy. Dr John Martin Hiss from North America was the pioneer of manipulative techniques for feet and ankles. With the help of a collaborative team of doctors, osteopaths, podiatrists and chiropractors, Dr Hiss set up clinics across the US in the 1920s to treat foot pain. A student of Dr Hiss, Dr Harvey Lampell further refined the technique and taught the improved version to Ted Jedynak. Jedynak worked extensively with Lampell in 1994 before refining the technique further still and introducing FMT to Australia.

FMT is mainly taught in Australia, but it is practised around the world. FMT involves using advanced assessment techniques that require a significant amount of training and a sound understanding of the biomechanics of the foot and leg. Our podiatrist – Shaun McCann – spent 5 years in clinical practice in Australia, learning and practising Foot Mobilisation techniques, to ensure that he provides the best level of care to his patients.
