If you're still wondering whether a bunion can really be straightened without surgery, meet Karen.

Karen completed a short course of Foot Mobilisation Therapy and corrective exercises here at our Tauranga clinic.
FMT is a gentle, hands-on technique that guides the joints back into the correct position. The exercises then strengthen the muscles around the joint to support the change. Like all our bunion patients, Karen had x-rays before and after treatment, so we could measure her results.
Karen's bunions measured 33 and 32 degrees before treatment. Afterwards, they measured 17 and 20 degrees: a significant change of 16 and 12 degrees.
A normal alignment is between 12 and 15 degrees, so with minimal ongoing treatment we'd expect her bunions to straighten completely.

Karen can now wear more of her shoes, and she's pleased she doesn't need expensive surgery!
Well done, Karen!
