Before and After X-rays That Prove We Can Straighten Your Bunion

Meet Andriany, aged 56, with a common case of bunions (the big toe turning inwards). She was frightened by the thought of her bunions getting worse, of painful surgery, and of having to keep changing her footwear to fit her feet. So she decided to get some advice about her developing big toe problem.

Andriany was surprised to hear we could actually straighten her big toe without affecting her busy lifestyle or her choice of shoes.

Andriany's treatment

After talking through Andriany's personal goals, we did an advanced joint assessment at her first consultation, which included an x-ray.

We prescribed a course of Foot Mobilisation Therapy: a series of gentle mobilisations and manipulations to the joints of the feet. We then gave her specific foot exercises to strengthen and support the changes.

Full credit to Andriany for her commitment. The first stage of treatment was the most intensive, with minimal ongoing treatment after that.

The x-rays

Andriany's initial bunion angle was 34 degrees, which is classed as an advanced bunion. A normal angle is between 12 and 15 degrees.

Before treatment: 34 degrees

Before treatment x-ray of Andriany's foot showing an advanced bunion angle of 34 degrees

After treatment: 20 degrees

After treatment x-ray showing Andriany's bunion angle reduced to 20 degrees

As you can see, she's achieved a significant change of 14 degrees! With minimal ongoing treatment, we'd expect her toe to keep straightening until it's anatomically straight.

Well done, Andriany!
